Kapok Fiber

Derived from the seed pods of the Ceiba Tree in Central America, kapok is a natural fiber that sheds seasonally, eliminating the need for mechanical harvesting.

With its silky and fluffy texture, kapok provides the plushness of down while remaining plant-based like cotton, making it an ideal vegan alternative.

History of Kapok

Kapok fibers were utilized in the all-natural life preservers worn by G.I.s during World War II.

In the 1920s, mountaineers climbing Mt. Everest often wore high-altitude boots insulated with kapok, leather outers, gaiters, and crampons.

Kapok fibers are one-eighth the weight of cotton.

Kapok was one of the earliest non-food plants cultivated across Southeast Asia.

Kapok has a Retro Green quality.

An Argument for Kapok Over Goose Down:

While it's theorized that geese naturally molt their down, the reality is that goose down production often involves keeping millions of birds in cages before they are ultimately slaughtered for meat or foie gras. By choosing down products, individuals may inadvertently support this industry. In contrast, kapok is a vegetable down that has been used in various maritime applications due to its buoyancy and water-repellent properties. As demonstrated in an article from the Grey River Argus published 107 years ago, kapok can float up to 30 to 35 times its weight, far surpassing ordinary cork.

Care:

For the best care of your pillows, we always advise spot-cleaning them — avoid saturating them with any liquid. As an extra precaution, we highly recommend using one of our protective Waterproof pillow covers to prevent spills from becoming problematic.

For spot cleaning, we suggest using a mild solution of three parts water to one part vinegar in a spray bottle. However, for stubborn spills, you can add a mild detergent to the bottle as well.

After spot cleaning, it's crucial to ensure that your pillow is thoroughly dried. You can achieve this by using a hair dryer or by placing it in the sun to air out completely. This step is essential for maintaining the integrity and freshness of your pillow.
